Preparing for the arrival of a baby girl means lots of planning. It also means lots of shopping. The choices in baby girl clothing can make your head spin. But the end result is your baby girl looking like the princess she is. Where to begin is the big question.

 

Begin with the basics. For the newborn, focus on needs for the season. Lots of onesies are your best bet. These are worn under most outfits to protect delicate skin or can be worn on their own during the warm summer months. Next, your little one will need sleeping outfits. The most important thing to remember about sleeping outfits is their fit. They need to fit snugly for safety reasons.

 

One piece rompers and coveralls are a good choice for day wear. For ease in changing baby, choose outfits that snap up or zip up the inside of the legs, this way you don't have to completely undress her during diaper changing. Easy outfits are best during the first few weeks. She will also need a warm sweater, even in the summer for when it cools off in the evening. This should be a button or zip front sweater so you don't have to struggle to get it over your newborns head.

 

As your baby girl gets a little older, this is where the fun begins. It is easy to go overboard when shopping so try to remember how fast they grow the first year and plan accordingly. Most parents of little girls want to make sure they are not mistaken for little boys when they go on outings so the abundance of clothing you will find is in pinks. Also, what mum wants is her baby girl looking like the princess she really is.

 

Baby girl clothing is notorious for frills, ruffles, patterns and pinks. All of this can be a little overwhelming so again, try to stick to the basic needs first, then add on from there. No doubt the grandparents will be indulging in princess ballerina outfits. Lace, ruffles and even pettiskirts and tutu's are all the rage these days so why not splurge just a little and have some fun while you are at it.

 

Shoes are optional for many babies. They tend to have fat feet and sometimes you cant figure out how those chubby little feet are going to fit into shoes. Cute frilly socks work just fine, as do soft soled slipper type shoes. Shoes are not really important until your baby girl begins to take her first steps, so they are not something to stress over. If you are the type of parent who must have shoes for their baby, there is nothing wrong with that, just make sure you have more than one pair. You would be surprised to find how quickly and easily a shoe goes missing on an outing to the store.

 

Once you have all the basics down, you are going to want to indulge on dresses and even accessories. Just make sure your choices are age appropriate. Beyond that, just have fun with the clothes you choose. You don't have to dress your girl in just pink. She can wear any colour and still look like a princess. I'm sure this is a relief for people who just aren't that into the colour pink.

 

Clothes shopping for your new addition can be a little overwhelming. But the key is to have fun and buy what you like. Plan ahead because before you know it, she will have outgrown everything and you will be wondering what you are going to dress her in.
